EcoEnergy activities in municipalities have been implemented through the Municipal Energy Efficiency Offices. These offices exist and work in the frames of the municipal administration and their activities are targeted to energy consumption management in the municipalities, finding ways for energy savings, development and implementation of energy efficiency programs and projects.
The Municipal Energy Efficiency Officer has the main role in the office. His primary goal is to promote energy efficiency as a way for solving important economic, social and ecologic problems in the municipalities and its inhabitants and to be a motive power for including energy efficiency into the process of decisions taking. He organizes establishment and maintenance of information database for the energy consumption in the municipality and analyses the results. The municipal officer represents the municipality in the Network routine activities.
The first offices were opened in May 1999. The municipalities have provided space as well as the equipment and its maintenance. Computer systems, e-mails and internet access were provided to 39 of the municipalities through the project Energy Efficiency Strategy to Mitigate GHG Emissions. Energy Efficiency Demonstration Zone in Gabrovo, financed by GEF through UNDP. In this way a computer network among the municipalities has been established which allows faster and easier way for information dissemination and data exchange.
