Management of Domains Related to Energy in Local Authorities - MODEL

MODEL In September 2007 a new project called MODEL and fininced under the Intelligent Energy Programme - Europe has started and EcoEnergy is one of the partners in it.

This is the first project of the European Commission where all new EU member-states are involved. MODEL is oriented towards raising energy efficiency in municipalities.

MODEL project will help to 34 municipalitie from eight new member-states and candidates to become models for both the citizens and the other European municipalities.

In order to achieve these goals, the MODEL project will:

-       support the municipalities in the planning, implementation and valuation of the activities for energy efficiency improvement in the municipalities while focusing on the whole managament process;

-       broaden the practical knowledges and skills of the municipalities and networks of municipalities; 

-       preprare the ground for development of sustainable energy communities. 

Main activities in the project:

-       development of Common Framework Methodology for elaboration, implementation and valuation of Municipal energy programs;

-       selection of shining examples for information dissemination and exchange of experience among the local authorities in the framework of the European Union;

-       implementation of Municipal Energy Programs and annual Action Plans;

-       organization of Municipal Intelligent Energy Days and international competitions for the best Energy Manager of MODEL project and/or the best Shining Example of MODEL project;

-      dissemination of the project results on national, regional and European level.
 
 Expected results from the project implementation:

-       development and implementation of Municipal Energy Programs and annual Action Plans in at least 34 pilot municipalities, which aim at achieving at least 10% energy consumption reduction in the municipal sites; they will be models for other municipalities and will persuade them to undertake similar activities;

-       promote activities for strenthening of knowledges and skills as well as of activities, which will draw the attention of the local public to possible actions in the energy efficiency field;
-       assign/ strengthen the Energy Manager/Energy Unit's role in the municipalities;

-       common methodology with option for repeatedly implementation, which will influence the management process and will be suitable for use in the participating countries in the project and will be promoted by the organizations which are partners in the project;

-       establish/authorize sustainable collective organizations (networks) in every country, which should inform the local authorities and also should initiate, coordinate and support the implementation of municipal projects and will train energy managers.
