The Role of Municipality in Climate Change Mitigation - Awareness Raising Campaign
In 2005 the Role of Municipality in Climate Change Mitigation – Awareness Raising Campaign project has been implemented. It was financed by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affiars (DEFRA) in the framework of Projects for Environment Protection in the EU Candidate Countries Program and was implemented by the Municipal Energy Efficiency Network EcoEnergy.

 The main project activities included:
 
-        Overview of the existing policies and practicies in the European municipalities  - examples were selected mainly in areas where significant potential for greenhouse gas emissions redusction existed, such as energy efficiency in municipal buildings and stret lighting, transport, waste, biomass, etc.

-        A guide for indentifiaction and implementation of climate change mitigation projects was developed for the municipalities. Possible financial resources for such projects were given in this guide.

-        A CD has been elaborated based on the guide.

-        Municipal specialist were trained during a Seminar.

-        Information was disseminated and a special climate change section was created in the website "Energy Efficiency Partnership" (in Bg).
 
For the effective implementation of the project EcoEnergy Secretariate formed work group of municipalities which were members of EcoEnergy.
